Haley
hey, my name is Haley (obviously), I was born in Proserpine hospital in Queensland on 26th April 1993.
I do home-schooling with Groves Christian College Distance Ed.
there's ups and downs to home schooling, I think the best thing about it is that you can finish your work quick and go do whatever, but the bad thing about it is I dont get to see my friends very often.
No social life is really not my thing, lol.
Below are my fav photos from our marion reef trip.
Recently I did a modelling course that went for 6 weeks. Yeh so last weekend I went for a photo shoot on daydream island.
I'll put some of the pictures from that day on here when I get them.
4 December 2006
We were anchored at Fitzroy reef/laggon, and it was low tide,
dad and I decided to go for a snorkel, we loaded the dinghy and took off to the reef.
We jumped in the water, dad had his spear gun with him so I was keeping an eye out for sharks and fish.
It was amazing, the coral was really good, but the coral trout! they were everywhere! Everywhere you looked there was one sitting there looking at you,
so dad was shooting away and I was doing a full circle every time heard the speargun going off.
we were out in about 10 meters of water and dad points out a grey reef shark cruising around underneath us. then all of a sudden he was pointing behind me, I turned and there was a HUGE turtle coming towards me! He was about 1.5 meters including his head and tail, he was about a meter away from me and I was starting to get a little nervous because he was still coming towards me.
Then when I could almost reach out and touch him he turned and swam to my right, he sort of hung around for a while but he eventually took off.
So dad started shooting fish again and we had about 4 trout by now. We occasionally saw that shark hanging around, he was about 2 meters long.
we started swimming further from the dinghy and we came to a little sandy patch that was teaming with life,
there were trout there too. dad shot one but it was a gut shot and got off, it went into a cave so dad went an shot another one,
he kept that one so we started back towards the dinghy which was a fair way off now, he pointed out the shark again to warn me.
We were swimming to the dinghy now and every 5-10 seconds I would turn to see if the shark was following.
I was swimming a little bit behind dad who was trying to hold the fish in the air,
I turned and jolted, the shark was about a meter away and coming towards me fast, I screamed (underwater) but dad had his head out of the water and didnt hear me, the shark was swimming about a meter away and below, it was picking up pace, and my scream must have stopped it from coming at me, I was shaking from the adrenalin now wich probably wasn't helping.
I screamed again because it had picked up its pace again and had its pectril fins down, this time I got dads attention, I swam up to dad and we were both turning every 2 seconds to see were he was, dad pointed to the dinghy and i made no hesitation in getting there.
I got out and sat in the dinghy thanking God that that hadn't turned into something nasty.
yeh that had definately put my nerves on end.
we went home then.
